VFTU is disappointed to announce that our brook trout egg planting program targeted for late November of this year has been cancelled, due to supply problems at the hatchery.
Although we were recently informed that we’d be expecting a batch of eggs late this month, the yield and viability of those produced were much smaller than anticipated.
We are reminded that no matter how carefully we plan, Mother Nature gets the final word. The hatchery owner attributes the low production to warmer water temps in the feeder springs this fall. Unfortunately, this program is not one which can turn on a dime and simply find a new supplier overnight.
We will look for alternative hands-on membership activities in the spring.
