Tell DEP to protect PA’s best wild trout streams

Pennsylvania’s Wild Trout Need Your Help – Make Your Voice Heard!

Since 2011, Trout Unlimited has worked closely with the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission to identify and protect wild trout in the Commonwealth as part of the Unassessed Waters Initiative.

Now, we need the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to protect these pristine waterways.

Thanks to Pennsylvania’s Clean Streams Law, waters containing Class A populations of wild trout merit a “High Quality” designation. But DEP is not moving quickly enough to give some Class A streams the required level of protection. In many cases, it takes several years for DEP to act. And some Class A streams never receive the HQ designation at all.

TU members and supporters have submitted more than 1,500 comments to the Fish & Boat Commission in favor of upgrading Class A streams since 2017. It’s time for DEP to take the final step and promptly reclassify the current backlog of more than 300 miles of wild trout streams to High Quality status, as well as streamline the process going forward. This will give our best trout waters special protections against pollution, now and into the future.

Make your voice heard! Tell DEP to protect wild trout streams now! With questions, or to find out how you can take additional action, please reach out to Rob Shane, Mid-Atlantic Organizer for Trout Unlimited, by phone (571-274-0598) or email (rshane@tu.org).
