Contact your senator to support funding for the PA Fish & Boat Commission by voting FOR HB 808

House Bill 808 will finally put the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission back on a sound financial footing. HB 808 would give the PFBC authority to modestly increase its fees to help it achieve its mission of restoring and conserving fisheries in the Commonwealth. On Wednesday, April 17, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed HB 808 House by a vote of 151 to 39. Please take a moment to thank your legislator for their support of this important bill.  Make sure they know we, TU and Pennsylvania’s sportsmen and sportswomen, appreciate their support.

Now the bill goes to the PA Senate, where the outlook is good since the bill has passed the Senate on 2 previous occasions.  Despite this previous support we shouldn’t take it for granted that it will pass again.

The Senate’s Game & Fisheries Committee plans to take up the bill on April 30th, so don’t delay. Please contact your senator and remind them of our support.

This issue had been debated for years, but we are at a critical juncture. Increased license fees will provide necessary funds for PFBC to continue important projects to protect and enhance our wild trout fisheries and cold water resources. The agency relies heavily on license fees to fund its operations—it receives no tax dollars from the general fund.

Sixteen sportsmen’s groups, including TU, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, and the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen and Conservationists, recently signed a letter encouraging the passage of H.B. 808.
